In this journal, I want you to reflect on the last 8 weeks of this semester. Do you think your writing has improved? If so, how has it improved? What could you have done better? In the next 8 weeks, what would you like to accomplish? What would you do differently?
I think i am getting better to write journal or essay because i needed a lot of time to write journal and essay before. By the way, i can write automatically if i have a subject i have to write. It is helpful when i speak in English. We need to learn speaking, writing, listening, and reading the reason why these are connected each other. I would like to improve more professional and academic in my English skill. In fact, i use easy words as i speak with people or write in essay. I would like to use more difficult words.

Music is my friend

I undergo various effects through listening music for my life because I like listening to music anywhere anytime. My favorite kind of music is ballad like romance song. When I listen that kind of music, I often feel like being in that situation. When I was seeing boyfriend, we enjoy singing a duet song, ‘letter written to you’, in Karaoke together. It was one of good ways to express my mind to him. Nowadays, I enjoy listening pop-song. Before coming here, I almost did not listen pop song too much because I could not understand what they are saying. However, after I came here, I try to listen pop music to improve my English skills. First time it was difficult for me to listen pop song. As time goes by, I could understand and listen what message is. So, Pop song became my favorite song. My favorite American musicians are Mariah Carey and Delta Goodrem. Whenever I feel hard to study English or have some problem, I heard ‘Born to try’ song by Delta Goodrem. I can get power from the message. I am almost with music whenever I am walking and taking exercise. It helps me I am not bored. I jog everyday alone for keeping my health, at that time Music becomes one of the best friends. It is good to listen for me when I walk. But there are some problems like I could not hear others saying because of my music. So, it makes some misunderstanding between us like I ignored their greeting without my intention. One year ago, I was walking on street as I listened music with high volume, my boyfriend called me opposite cross but, I could not hear his voice. I was angry with him, and he called me and asked me “why did not you look at me?” At that time, I did not what he was saying. So, I asked him again “What happened?” He explained that situation and then, fortunately our understanding cleared up. Even though I do not like this situation making some misunderstandings, I do not stop listening music. I also some cases I need to listen music. For example, I need to listen sad kind of song when I broke up with boyfriend. It made sometimes more sad, but I can overcome more easy because those kinds of songs seem like know my mind. It is kind of music therapy. It also is kind of psychology healing. For another example, when someone feels gloomy or unhappy or cannot sleep well, they listen calm classic to refresh themselves. I sometimes use this therapy I want. That’s why it makes me better. Music is a tonic like a vitamin for me.

Disney Land

I went to Disney land last April with my friends but, i have not ever gone to Sea world. So i cannot comfare or contrast about that. I am just goint to write about Disney land. It was first time to go there. So i really enjoyed playing in Disney land. I felt like i was child when i rode some riding like finding Nemo, something like that. And i was riding something(i forgot the name of riding) i felt i was in universe. I liked it. Before we rode that, we had to wait for a long time, about 6 hours. So, we reservated at afternoon and then we took a ride at night lastly. When i came to Disney Downtown i felt like i was maincharacter like mini or white princess. It made me more interested. At last i watched fireworks it was really fantastic. I would like to go there one more.

Social Events

There are many events in the world. In case of america Events, Holidays are St. patrick day, labor day, New Year's Day(1.1), Martin Luther King's (Jan.), Washington’s Birthday(February Third Monday), Memorial Day(May Fifth Monday), Independence Day (7.4), Labor Day(September First Monday), Columbus Day(October Second Monday), Veterans Day(11.11), Thanksgiving Day(November Fifth Thursday), Christmay (12.25). In sase of Korea Holidays are The anniversary of the Independence Movement of March lst, Constitution Day(July seventh), Independence Day of Korea(August fifth), The National Foundation Day(October Third), New Year's Day(1.11), Arbor Day(April fifth), Labor Day(May first), Children's Day(May Fifth), The Buddha´s Birthday(April Eighth), The Memorial Day(June sixth), Thanksgiving Day(August Fifteenth), Christmas(12.25)
There are parties such as b.y.o.b.(bring your own bottle/booze/beverage/beer) :Bring some alcohol each one, baby shower : Party to pregnant women and nursing mothers with only women, card party : Almost play card game, cocktail party, graduation party, mixer : To introduce the other ender friend, open house, potluck dinner, prom : Party to do wearing full dress before high school graduation, surprise party, New Year Party, birthday party, pajama party, housewarming party, potluck party, welcome party, farewell party, tea party, dance party, mask party, dinner party, celebration party, stag party, hen party, reception, and Christmas party in America.
I'll talk about New year and Valentine Day about America and Korea.
★America's New Year
America's New Year event starts 31st December night. They have party, wait countdown that counting 3-2-1 and saying Happy New Year, pop champagne, kiss, play games, blow horns, whistles and etc to clean out evil and sometimes shoot rifles into the sky with their family or friends. Then they cut St. Basil's cake that there is a lucky coin. Person who have the lucky coin is lucky at the year. First visitor give good luck or bad luck, especially, person who tall and dark hair visits some house with good luck. They eat some simple food, Hopping John that african bring into America. There are other foods, black-eyed pea, Honey grazed ham and Cabbage. There is a song ,AULD LANG SYNE, listening all days before the New Year in all English-speaking countries. Meanings of AULD LANG SYNE are "Old long ago" or "Good old days". Someone open their house and they treat some food and Eggnog. Someone watch parade held in Philadelphia and football game. In America football is more popular than World-Cup.
★Korea's New Year
Korea's New Year is not first January but January 1st of the lunar calendar. In the New year morning younger bow to older saying well-wishing remarks such as Mansumugang haseyo, live for a long time and so on. Then older give some money that have good luck saying well-wishing remarks. Korean get up early and wear gala dress like Hanbok worn to have good luck on the New year's Day in Korean soelbim. They eat various foods such as rice cake soup, fruits, chop suey, brass chafing dish, three colors herbs, beef with vegetables cooked in casserole, cake made from wheatflour, kind of pattern-pressed candy, sweet drink made from fermented rice and so on. They play folk games such as playing yut, seesaw, Kite flying to unite and harmonize more strong among family.
★Valentine Day of America and Korea
Person give some chocolate to person who liked or loved irrespective of gender. Store wants people to buy something like expensive flower, chocolate, candy, ring, necklace and so on. In fourth February I could see expensive flower, chocolate, candy on the street and mart. It is also Korea Valentine Day. There are Three days related to confession In Korea. Women give some chocolate or flower or other present to men loved in fourth February, Valentine Day. Men give some candy or flower or other present to women loved in fourth, White Day. If someone who don't have boyfriend or girlfriend couldn't receive chocolate or candy, they eat chinese noodle food, and they believe they can make boyfriend or girlfriend. But, I think It is commercial to sell something more and more.

Impression about ALP.

When i enrolled to study at ALP, i felt real american work at CP 100. So, first impression was very good for me. I can believe to study English at ALP. When ALP started first, i went to meet ALP students to T.S.U. At the place i met and ate breakfast with not only international students but also Korean students. Many staffs prepare foods and helped us. Before i came to meet ALP students, i thought i might feel unfamiliar. But, it was exactly not. I felt familiar even if we did not meet before. I made some relationship with my friends and then i participated in orientation. They were explained about American life and rules for us to understand easily. And then, next week, we started classses. In class i felt like i am living in the World because there were students who acome from many countries such as Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Saudi. And i thought Advanced Level was very systematic and professional. Not only I can learn English, but also American culture as went to some places like Knott's berry farm, Bowers Museum, something like that well from ALP. I realized proverb,"Time flies when you are having fun ", while i studied ALP on summer session. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and even studying. When i studied on summer, there were a few university students. So, there was not crowd and busy. But, we are studying and being with university students so i sometimes feel like i also am real university sudents. They look like very freedom and they can do anything they want. I would like to study hard and make a good relationship with my friends for my rest American life.

Introduce Myself

My name is I-Seul,Kim in Korean name. In a class, you call me Stella. Stella meaning is Star. i named stella because i like star.I was born in Korea, Gwang-ju where is fifth city in S.Korea. Gwang ju helds World Biennale,art exhibition, every 2 years. I am proud of it. I really like art like watching works or drawing a picture. These are my hobbies. And also i really like trip. I can learn lots of things and feel through traveling. I went to famous places in America such as Las Vegas, San Francisco, Calico, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion Canyon, Stanford univ., Sedona, Mexico, and so on. It made my mind bigger and more wide. I would like to be a dentist. So i came here to study English. When i was middle school student, i wanted to be a dentist. I don't give up to be a dentist. I am standing a way on becoming a dentist. Actually, i studied about social work in Korea. It is very attractive studying but, i am not interested with that. However, i have a plan to build a nursing home for senior when i will be 50 years old. And then i have a goal one more in my life. i would like to publish books.
